TIP OF THE WEEK

Did you know...?

The rapid rise of chronic, non-communicable diseases represents one of the major health challenges to global development.

The World Health Organization is committed to lead and strengthen global efforts to prevent and control chronic diseases and to promote health.

In 2006, World Health Day (celebrated annually on 7 April), will be devoted to the health workforce crisis. “The global population is growing, but the number of health workers is stagnating or even falling in many of the places where they are needed most," said WHO Director-General Dr. Lee Jong-Wook.  An acute shortage of health workers is having a devastating impact on many countries' ability to fight disease and improve health, according to The World Health Report 2006 published today, World Health Day.  The report outlines the need for more investment in the health workforce and sets out a 10-year plan to address the crisis.  To read the full report or to learn more about World Health Day 2006, point your browser to:  http://www.who.int/en/
