More than one million workers suffer back injuries each year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Back injuries account for one fourth of all compensation indemnity claims costing industry billions of dollars. OSHA has reported that one third of compensable back injuries could be prevented through better job design and ergonomics.  Back injury prevention programs can be a very cost effective tool in creating awareness and a workplace expectation of safe back habits. Consider your own statistics and the reduction in your premium if you had even 20% fewer back injuries in your last three year trend.  Effective preplacement screening is helpful in identifying at risk individuals before they get injured but even a healthy back can be injured if the individual is not using proper body mechanics.  Both OSHA and NIOSH offer affordable resources.  For a more customized program, please feel free to contact our Client Services Department.
